Through our extensive experience of art and sculpture moving and shipping we have learnt that the real art of crating is in the design of the interior of the box. We understand and utilize the most current materials available through our close association with different manufacturers of packing materials.
If arranging your own shipping methods, you will need your items to be professionally packed in order to arrange insurance cover. Insurers do require this.
Our shipping crates and boxes are custom made using double or triple strength corrugated flats. All boxes are lined with 1 inch soft foam strips along the broad sides, and firm foam blocking along the edges and corners. The foam blocking allows the in ner package of your art to be shipped without excess pressure.
Pallet Boxes: Heavy duty export quality double wall containers with or without feet for fork lift requirements. These are particularly used with sculpture and are again made to order. These are reinforced and strapped to ensure rigidity. Internally the piece is wrapped in protective layers of tight fitting plastic film and then the crate is filled slowly with expanding foam. This eliminates all movement and minimizes risk. In cases where, for example, there is a sculpture and a plinth, we may crate separately.
Crating ceramics, glassware and other delicate items is totally different and has to be treated as such. The crate may be of similar style and strength but internally the materials used are different. Too much or too little pressure can cause damage. Again this is where experience lends a hand. A snug fitting crate, foam sheeting, strips, and restraints are important.
For artwork, we can ship with the glass, but it has to be removed from the piece and placed under a protective layer. We can advise the client of the best option here.
Recycling is important to us and as such our crates can all be reused several times. The crates clearly show how to open, empty and then refit the piece if that is required.
